being small is all relative...
OK so I never cultivated any sort of technique with watercolours and haven't picked them up for YEARS, explaining why my Yellow Ochre was completely solid and I couldn't get anything but goo out of my Cobalt Blue. But that said, I am pretty happy with this. For some reason I seem to keep thinking that going digital is "cheating" and natural media is "real" so I've been egging myself to try something new instead of the easy comfortable Painter IX. Well here we go. I really like some of the textures and "surprises" like the fanning out of the paint on the left hand side of the door frame (is there a term for that?). I would have liked the shadows a bit longer and perhaps less saturated to show more of a difference between the people and their shadows, but that is probably a matter of control which I don't yet have with this medium. I am definitely going to experiement more with this. Maybe get some real watercolour paper and brushes which don't shed their bristles every 30 seconds.
This blog for me is really about finding my style and experimenting. I feel like I'm starting to find how I like to draw people (bendy arms, skinny bodies and big heads, etc), and experimenting with different media is a big part of this self-discovery...
any comments, criticisms, or glorious bits of wisdom appreciated!

Wonderful illo. I love the shadows.
Lovely Illustration - child outline is great.
Very charming illo.
Great image.
I love this- THe shadows add a good perspective to the illustration, as does the use of minimal colours. It's very cute, and could totally belong in a Robert Munsch book or something.
Wonderful and charming illo!
Nice illo--great job with the shadows.
i love it!
Great experimentation with the media. I love watercolour and admire those who can do it well. I am no expert. Sometime I can too careful. But it's good fun splashing about with something "real". I hope to see more from you. :)
