I-F: Canned

Here is my submission for Illustration Friday this week. Remember doing this as a kid? Do kids still do this or is it all nintendo and tv now? I think some of the simplest toys can be the funnest, don't you?

Anyway, I've also been looking for something to use to update my blog header so hey presto! There we are - Hope you like it. :-)

And.... on the domestic front, I think I am getting a bit carried away with this whole baking thing. For the last four weeks I have made bread every weekend - and this time it was cinnamon buns! Looking at these I still can't quite believe that I made them. They are way yummy. I don't think I'll be doing it again any time soon though - it was a bit more labour-intensive than your run-of-the-mill loaf, and uses a bit more butter and sugar then I usually like, but for now I'm not complaining! ;-)

So cute! Yes, my kids do this, but they do it all wrong. They're either 3 ft apart and shouting, or they go to separate rooms and close the door on the string. HA!

Mmmmmmm, those buns look delish!

That's a nice take on the subject. I hadn't thought of that. Nice illustration.

Great interpretation of the topic. My kids have tried it but gave up pretty quickly. Though sometimes a simple stick can still trump the Nintendo.

Fantastic illo and header (and buns) Kim! It's funny, 'cause my little nephew, who is three, despite the cool toys and fancy gizmos he gets, he's fascinated by ordinary objects like boxes and brooms and whatever else is not a toy. Clay, crayons, paper and boxes will hopefully never go out of style.

Hey Kim! Great take on the topic this week, and nicely excecuted. It has a nice look and feel to it.

I'll take a plate of those cinamon rolls and a mug of tea.

I LOVE your illustration! So deserving of its place as a header for your blog. : ) And the cinnamon buns are making my mouth water, literally.

Really cute. I think in today's world, you have to show them the simple things. Then mine look at me like I'm crazy!
Yummy rolls!

Yes, kids still do stuff like this and enjoy it, but sometimes you have to show them these old games.

This is a really nice image.

(please don't get me started on cinnamon buns...)

I remember doing that too! But sadly, I think you might be right about kids being into more digital fare. Your painting is adorable and makes a mighty fine banner. Great work!

Fantastic! Lovely colours and a great sense of playfulness. I remember tin-can stilts as well as telephones.

I'm glad I'm not the only one in a baking frenzy at the moment - biscuits, brownies, cupcakes! My winter-jiggle is well in place. :) I'm blaming it on the nippy weather.

Have a great visit in Perth, it's quite nice here on the far side of the country :)

Thank you everyone! Glad to hear some more reports of 'kids today' playing the old fashioned way. Splashing about in a pond looking for tadpoles was one of my favourites!

Samantha, (and everyone who commented about the cinnamon buns) - yes it is such a lovely thing to bake in the Winter, to fill the house with that warm yeasty smell... and raising the temperature of the house a few degrees doesn't hurt either!
