Thank you to everyone for your nice comments on my previous post about experimenting with new watercolour techniques - it really encouraged me to try more!
I actually did the monkeys (below) first, following the book, then muscle memory from my one calligraphy class years ago took over and I had an urge to do brush painting again.
I love painting with ink - it is so fluid, and so black.
fun!

I love Mr Monkey and you can write Chinese characters too!?!
This is great!!!
WOW, really like both of these. nice work
Love the chicken! This style could be perfect for a book!
Nice illo's and your style is really great - I like it a lot.
Thanks guys! I really had fun with them, especially the chickens.
Amy C - I can't actually write Chinese characters - I'm a total wannabe! I am just copying what was in the book - very badly! Although the characters in the chicken painting are actually my name (Ki-mu) that I learned in my calligraphy class.
Well done Kim! What fun! I love trying something new. Its challenging, but its so empowering to master something different!
Beautiful work, I love the style and am interested in the books you mentioned in your blog... the chinese watercolour book and especially your book!
these are simply fantastic! You are doing it so fluidly and naturally! Great work! I really like the soft feel of these fabulous pieces.

it's so cool that you try new techniques, and it seems like you have done it forever... i know chinese painting technique is very hard!! kudos!
Thanks for stopping by. I LOVE your brushwork. Those chicks are just so cute and the work overall has so much personality. (my grandmother studied Chinese watercolor for years and gave me a book her instructor wrote. It is a fun technique.)
I especially love the black and red style of the chickens, the whole piece works really well too.
What beautiful, fluid brush work! Sounds like it's time for the chicks to leave the nest...
These are fabulous! You're very adept at this!
i agree with everybody else, these illustrations are so beautiful! I like the way you've used thick and thin strokes to create the chickens...wow! Ps. i answered your question about my illustration over on my blog:-)
Beautiful brushwork! I hope you continue to share more of this with all of us!
